Tour Overview

Everest Base Camp trek is truly a lifetime dream journey for many western travelers. People desire to stand at the foot of the world’s tallest mountain- Mt.Everest and adore its immense beauty. Everest base camp trekking is not only to reach the base camp of Mt. Everest; but it is also a good opportunity to observe and explore the rich culture, traditions, and lifestyle of Sherpa communities.

Our Everest Base Camp trekking starts after an exploration around the ancient city of Kathmandu. This Kathmandu City Tour takes you close to the historically and culturally rich places around Kathmandu. Then, it follows a scenic flight to Lukla perched within the mountains. From Lukla, your trek starts all the way to EBC and Kala Pathar.

Most of the Everest Base Camp Trek routes lie wholly within the premises of Sagarmatha National Park. This national park is a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site where you can catch glimpses of rare plants, animals and birds.

Ultimately you reach Namche Bazaar, the capital of the Khumbu region. Here, you take a rest for better acclimatization and make a side excursion to the surrounding area and Everest View Hotel. Everest View Hotel is a 2004 Guinness World Record Holder for World’s Highest Altitude Hotel. The next day, the trek continues through Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak shep and finally the Everest Base Camp.

From Namche Bazaar, EBC Trek moves through rhododendron forest; finally arriving at the land of largest Buddhist monastery of Khumbu districts of Nepal.

Kalapatter is one of the best viewpoints of the Everest Base Camp Trek. From Kala Patthar, you can enjoy a 360° panoramic views of the high peaks of Everest, Pumori, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Nuptse.

You will arrive at the village of Monjo after trekking for a couple of hours from Phakding. You will get past the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park which lies in this Monjo. The trail then takes you to Jorsalle village as you walk downhill. Walking past Jorsalle village, you will reach Imja Tse river, which has a suspension bridge over it.

The trail tp Namche Bazaar(3440 meters) from Inja Tse is an uphill trail. You will spend your night in Namche Bazaar, which is also known as the capital of Sherpas. There are some beautiful spots in Namche which give you amazing glimpses of Mt. Kwangde, Mt. Kusum Kanguru, Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Tawache.

Today is an acclimatization day. You will get to see various parts of Namche Bazaar as you stroll this town. This will serve as a perfect way of acclimatizing to this place. You will reach a village called Phungitenga (3,250m) after a gentle descent through some winding hills. Phungitenga lies in a beautiful setting of alpine forest in Sagarmatha National Park on all sides. Bue pines, rhododendron, magnolia and birch trees are some of the beautiful fauna found in this forest. A two-hour trek from Phungitenga will take you to Tengboche.

After viewing the sunrise and having breakfast, you will head out to Dingboche. You will trek downhill today initially. This will take you inside the rhododendron, birch, and pine forests. On clearer areas, you will also be able to see Mt Ama Dablam, Mt.Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse. As you trek past the forest, you will get to the narrow gorge of Imja-Tse river. After crossing this gorge on a bridge, you will head out to Pangboche village (3,900m). You will follow a gentle uphill trail to Pangboche.

Shomare is the village you will reach as you cross Pangboche. Shomare offers you some close-up views of Mt. Ama-Dablam. As you take the trail from Shomare to the North Eastern side, you will reach Imja Tse valley. Walking further from Imja Tse Imja Tse will eventually take you to the beautiful place of Dingboche. Today’s trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4400 meters) is 6-7 hours long.

Dingboche lies at an altitude of 4000 meters. So you will need to spend another day acclimatizing to the high altitude of this region as well. This is due to the lower amount of oxygen here. There are a few optional hikes we have arranged for you in Dingboche.

One such activity is the short hike up to Nagarjuna Hill. The Nagarjuna hill is a grand place to admire the beauty of Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Island Peak and Chukung Ri. You can also go out on small hikes close to the Dingboche village to explore its beauty.

Best Time for Everest Base Camp Trek

A low amount of rainfall, moderate sunshine, and lower wind speeds makes Spring (March, April, and May) and Autumn (September, October, and November) the most popular seasons for trekking to Everest Base Camp.

If you prefer to trek in solitude, Winter (December, January, and February) and Summer (June, July, and August) might be the best time for you to trek to Everest Base Camp.

In the winters, the temperature is less than that of other seasons. But proper packing for the cold of winters will help you immensely. You can enjoy the most gorgeous views of the mountains of the Everest region in the winter season.

Summer might be tricky due to wet trekking trails. But you can complete a trek in this season with proper planning and gear. Besides, you can enjoy some off season discounts in the summer and winter seasons.

Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Everest Base Camp trek is a moderately difficult trek. The high altitude you will encounter, snowy trails, as well as high number of trekking days makes the Everest Base Camp trek a moderate trek.

The Everest Base Camp trek is 15 days long. You will trek for 13 days during this trip. Out of the 13 days, you spend two days acclimatizing. In these days, there will be light trekking.

The trek starts in an altitude of 2800 meters in Lukla and reached the highest point of 5545 meters in Kala Patthar. So as you gain around 2755 meters in altitude during the entire trip, you are bound to encounter many uphills along the way.

You will also walk along moraines and glacial paths along the way crossing a few ridges in between. All of this makes the Everest Base Camp trek a moderately difficult trek.

Training for around 3-4 months prior to coming coming to this trek would be ideal preparation.  Physical preparation in the form of a strength training, running, building of stamina etc. will come in handy. Completing a few day hikes would give you a mental picture of how the trek might be.

Also in terms of our safety and health, we could feel that they were constantly monitoring if everybody still felt ok, (Everest Base camp / altitude sickness) and we never experienced bad surprises because of the good informed and well prepared guides.
