Helambu is a region of Nepal highland villages, some 80 km from Kathmandu. It is the house of the people of Hyolmo. The valley of the Langtang is pertinently called "the valley of glaciers." Here the mountain-scape is spectacular. Mountains rise on either side of the valley, soaring up into the sky. The valley offers pine forest, slow-moving rivers and swift mountain streams, rough rock and snow-capped peaks, grassy downs, and daisy meadows and wild primulas. There are snow bridges spanning furious torrents in the upper part of the valley, high passes enveloped in mist, tiny lakes filled with icebergs and waters with crystalline light on them. This trek is comparatively easier because the elevations are lower, ranging from 800 m to 3600 m, offering lower climbing temperatures as well as warmer.
