Trekking in the Everest region is adventurous, yet most satisfying as you get to explore the foothills of Mt. Everest. The Everest three high pass trekking is a popular trek route in the Everest region.

The trek is the best opportunity of trekking over the adventurous passes near Mt. Everest. You will pass across the three high passes- Kongma La Pass, 5535m, Cho La pass,5368m, and  Renjo La pass (5338m).

Everest Base Camp Trek allows you to explore and walk through the tough and strenuous routes in the Khumbu region. During the trek, you will reach to traverse to numerous altitudes and vantage points for the best views of the giant Himalayas. Gokyo Ri, Kalapathar (5550m) and the Everest Base Camp (5364m) are some.

Along with the views of the Khumbu region, you will also get to explore the land of the Gokyo valley and celebrate its hidden beauty. The trek allows you to see the magnificent views of the gorgeous Gokyo lakes from Gokyo Ri, 5330m.

Detail Itinerary

You will arrive at the Tribhuvan International airport in Kathmandu. Our representative will pick you up and will shift you into a hotel.

You may rest for sometime. Or, you can walk around Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu in the evening.

Overnight in Kathmandu.

This day is all about touring in and around the Kathmandu valley. There are various natural and cultural sites where you can visit.

You can visit the World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu. Pashupatinath temple, the Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple are some.

After the sightseeing, we will call you for a pre-trip meeting in the afternoon. There we will discuss about our tour. We will host you a special dinner in a Nepalese restaurant.

After the team meet-up, you’ll return back to your hotel and get some sleep.

Maximum altitude: Phakding, 2635m

Trek duration: 3 hours

Today is the day when our trek begins. We will take an early morning domestic flight from Tribhuvan International Airport to Lukla. After the short flight of around 45 minutes, we will land at Lukla.

After landing in Lukla (2835m), we will meet our complete trekking crew. From there, we start walking to our first-day destination Phakding (2635m).

Walking in the rugged trails of Himalayas is an awesome feeling. The trail descends down to  Dudh Koshi river before you reach Phakding. The trail is quite easy and enticing. This short trek helps trekkers to adapt to the land, their trekking groups, and trek guides.

Maximum altitude: Namche Bazaar, 3440 m

Trek duration: 6 hours

We will start after a nice morning breakfast in Phakding. We will walk to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. Namche is a busy Sherpa hub in the Everest region. On walking, you proceed through the lush forests of rhododendron and cross the Hillary Suspension bridge before you reach Namche.

You will see the Namche Bazaar bustling with trekkers and locals. During the trekking and climbing seasons, the number of trekkers and climbers increases. Namche becomes very busy during those times.

From Namche, you will get the first sight of the gigantic Everest. You will also see the beautiful panoramas of the Himalayas like Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, etc.

There are many hotels and lodges at Namche for your overnight stay.

Today is your first acclimatization day at Everest. On this day, we will take a short acclimatization hike to the Everest View Hotel. The hotel is a high altitude Hotel in the world. From the hotel, you can see the best panorama of the silver Himalayas.

You can also walk to the Khumjung village and interact with the   Sherpa kids in their typical places.

After enjoying the Himalayan panoramas, interacting with the locals and walking past the alleys of the Everest region, we will return to Namche. You can roam around the Namche Bazaar. You can buy some trekking accessories if you need.

Don’t forget to taste the local Yak butter and cheese. Namche is famous for them.

Overnight in Namche.

Maximum altitude: 3860m, Tengboche

Trek duration: 5 hours

We will start early in the morning after a filling breakfast at Namche. Stepping over the rugged mountain trails, we will set off to Tengboche.

This day is a bit harder than previous days. The trek route involves an uphill ascend up to Tengboche. On walking for nearly five hours you will reach Tengboche.

Tengboche is a small Sherpa village. In the village, there is the most attractive Sherpa monastery, the Tengboche monastery.

The afternoon chants at the monastery are spiritual. Join the chant and feel heaven. Also, you can enjoy the sunset views from the monastery premise.

Overnight in Tengboche.

Maximum altitude: 4410m, Dingboche

Trek duration: 5 hours

Tengboche to Dingboche is a beautiful trek. The early morning Himalayan vistas seen from the Tengboche village is magnificent. And the splendid vista of Mount Everest seen from the trek route is captivating.

From Tengboche, the trail descends to Deboche. We will now cross the suspension bridge over Imja Khola. We then gradually ascend to Pangboche. You will see the towering view of Ama Dablam. The vistas are rejoicing!

The trail passes through the Imja valley to Dingboche. Once in the village you get to enjoy the fresh Himalayan air.

Overnight at Dingboche.

Maximum altitude: 4700m, Chhukung

Trek duration: 2 hours

We will start a trek to Chukkung valley in the early morning. The trek route is beautiful. The early morning vistas when the infant sun ray that ignites over the Dingboche valley is worth viewing.

From Dingboche, the trail ascends gradually. The climb starts with a northeast climb through the Dingboche valley. The view of the Dingboche valley from the top is amazing.

We will see the splendid views of Mt. Lhotse and Ama Dablam. The clear and unobstructed 360 degrees views of the distant views are spellbinding.

Walking up and down through the trekking trail, we will reach the valley of Chukhung. Chukkung is a beautiful small Sherpa village.

Maximum altitude: 5540m, Chhukung Ri

Trek duration: 5 to 6 hrs

Today we hike to the Chhukung Ri, 5540m on climbing the rocky and sharp ascents. The place offers some stunning views of Lhotse, Island Peak, Ama Dablam, Makalu, and many other peaks.

After enjoying the majestic vistas of the snowy peaks, we will descend down to Chhukung.

Overnight in Chhukung.

Maximum altitude: 4910m, Lobuche. 5535m, Kongma La Pass

Trek Duration: 6 hours

Today is the day of defeating the highest pass of the trip, The Kongma La pass, 5335m. Crossing passes can be quite strenuous than other portions of the trek. Carry plenty of water, snacks and packed lunch for the day.

The trail is remote. There are no lodges. So, you get to blend into the innocence of nature.

We start with climbing over hill, northwest of Chhukung. And from there, we trek over the moraine of the Nuptse Glacier. The small frozen lakes are lovable.

We will see the prayer flags, flipping and flattering across the pass. You can see the icy lakes and the Khumbu glacier.

The final descent from the pass to Lobuche is the most difficult part of today’s trek. We will climb up to the moraine and then turn to the north through the Khumbu glacier.

Finally, we will reach Lobuche. Overnight in Lobuche at a lodge.

Maximum altitude: 5400m, Everest Base Camp. 5181m, Gorak Shep

Trek duration: 8 hours

After a warm breakfast in Lobuche, we will set off to the Everest Base Camp.

But before reaching Everest Base Camp, we will trek to Gorak Shep, have lunch and set off to Everest Base Camp.

The trail is windy so you need to walk cautiously. Traversing through the rugged terrains at the Himalayas, we will reach Gorak Shep. After checking into a lodge at Gorak Shep, we will start trekking to the Everest Base Camp.

At the base camp, you will see a fantastic view of the Khumbu Icefall. The campsite is colorful during the expedition seasons. (because of colorful tents of climbers)

After spending some time at the base camp, we will trek back to Gorak Shep.

Overnight at a lodge in Gorak Shep.

Maximum altitude: 5545, Kala Patthar. 4710m, Dzong la Pass

Trek duration: 7 hours

An early morning hike to Kalapathar is a highlight of our trek. Kala Patthar is the best vantage point of Everest and the Khumbu glacier.

Seeing the first-day sunlight striking the top of the world, Mt. Everest! It is an amazing experience. The fantastic run rise view over the several Himalayas is breathtaking. The vistas of Mt. Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Khumbutse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam are overwhelming.

After rejoicing the splendid moments at Kalapathar, we descend down to Gorak Shep.

Now, we start retracing down to Lobuche. The trial involves various sections like crossing a stream and climbing a ridge.

On the trail, you will see the soaring heights of Ama Dablam and Kangtega-Thamserku. You will also see a magnificent view of the Pheriche village down the valley.

On the way, you will see the Cho La Lake spreading below Mt. Cholatse. You will see the lake for long. The trail includes various climbs and descends.

Finally, after lots of ascents and descents, we will reach Dzong la.

Overnight in a guest house at Dzong la.

Maximum altitude: 5370m, Cho La Pass

Trek duration: 7 hours

The first thing we will see in the morning is the mesmerizing view of Mt. Cholatse.

Today is a tough day as it involves crossing a pass, the Cho La pass.

Our trek begins at Dzongla with a descend to a basin. Afterward, we will walk for about an hour. We are now close to the Cho La pass.

The views from the heights are the most captivating ones. As we hit the highest point on the pass, the incredible Cho La Lake begins to appear. Also, we will see Ama Dablam.

Reaching the top of Cho La can be a bit tricky. Climbing the sharp and steep inclinations is not easy. Sometimes, we will have to scramble over rough boulders too.

At the top, we see prayer flags flapping in the cold mountain wind. The views of icy peaks around are breathtaking. After grabbing the fantastic experience, we start walking towards Dragnak.

The trek to Dragnak is long but easier. The only thing you must be alert of is the iced rocks. They are very slippery.

After a long day trek, we will reach Dragnak. Overnight in Dragnak.

Maximum altitude: 4790m, Gokyo Lake

Trek Duration: 4 hrs

Today is the day we trek to the Gokyo valley, the valley of majestic Gokyo lakes.

We will start after a nice breakfast in the morning. Enjoying the fabulous mountain views, we will walk towards the Gokyo valley. After a short walk, we will come across the edge of the Ngozumpa glacier. Ngozumpa is the longest glacier in Nepal.

On walking, we will reach the other edge of the glacier. From there, we get a mesmerizing view of the second of the Gokyo lakes.

The second and the third Gokyo lakes aren’t far apart. The third lake is only a short distance away.

The Gokyo Village sits on the edge of the third Gokyo lake. On reaching the Gokyo village, we will check into a lodge for an overnight stay.

Maximum altitude: 5357m, Gokyo Ri

Today, we climb the Gokyo Ri. From Gokyo Ri, we can enjoy incredible views of the Gokyo valley, Gokyo lakes, and the Himalayas.

We will also tour around the fourth and fifth Gokyo lakes. From Gokyo Ri, we will see the Gokyo lakes, we will see astonishing vistas of sugar-coated peaks. The views of towering Cho-Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makulu are alluring.

The sight of Ngozumpa Glacier is very attractive. You will feel lost in the surrounding views. We will take some time rejoicing the remarkable views from Gokyo Ri.

We will then trek back to Gokyo village and spend the night there.

Maximum altitude: 5340m, Renjo La Pass

Trek duration: 7 hours

Crossing Renjo La Pass will be quite exciting and challenging.

We will walk down to the remote northern valley from Gokyo valley. We will be closer to the Tibetan territory. There are possibilities that we can meet Tibetan traders descending from the Nangpa La pass.

Crossing the pass is physically more demanding. Be careful while descending down the sharp inclines. Walking over the rugged trail can be exaggerating.

Following the rough mountain trails, we will trek to Lungden, 4300m and spend a night there in a lodge.

Maximum altitude: 3800m, Thame

Trek duration: 4 hours

After a warm breakfast at Lungden, we trek down to Thame. While trekking down, we will see some alluring snow peaks.

There is a monastery, Thame Monastery, near the Thame village. The monastery is beautiful. You will see colorful prayer flags and the saints.

Overnight in Thame.

Maximum altitude: 3440m, Namche Bazaar

Trek duration: 4 hours

Today is the day when we trek back to the major Sherpa hub at Everest, Namche Bazar. Following the flat and descending trail through lush alpine forests, we trek to Namche.

Overnight in Namche.

Maximum altitude: 2800m, Lukla

Trek duration: 7 hours

Continuing the trek along the edge of the Dudh Koshi River, we trek to Lukla. Enjoy your walk as you will be bidding farewell to the Himalayas of the Everest region. You are on the edge of your Everest Three pass trek.

On this day, we will fly back to Kathmandu early in the morning via 45 minutes Lukla- Kathmandu flight.

We will see the mountains for the last time from inside the plane.

It’s time for you to fly back home. We will escort you to the Tribhuvan International Airport.

From there, you will board on your respective flights back home.

Best Time for Everest Three Pass Trek

Spring (March, April, May) and Autumn (September, October, November) are the best seasons for Everest Three Pass Trekking. These months experience the most pleasant weather and temperatures making the trek less demanding.

Spring is the time when Everest region rejoices colors of Spring. Walking into the colorful Rhododendron forests is a lovely experience. The fragrance of wildflowers and attractive colors of nature are at their best.

Autumn brings most stable weather and blue skies. The surrounding views are crystal clear. During Autumn, the daytime temperature becomes more favorable for trekking. Night temperatures are also bearable.

The monsoon and winter may add challenges to the trek. Because you will have to bear the snow and cold in winter. Whereas, the monsoon rain and frequent weather changes may make the summer trek less feasible.

Trek Difficulty During Everest Three Pass Trek

The three Passes are the high altitude places in Khumbu region. You will be ascending to the altitudes more than 5000 meters for more than a week. So, adapting with the high altitudes can be a real difficulty during the trek.

As a result, you may face a problem like altitude sickness. So, you must notice properly and pay attention if your body shows any symptoms of altitude sickness. You must maintain body hydration. Plus, you must include a proper acclimatization routine to your trek.

Our Everest Three Pass Trekking is a 21 days itinerary. This is quite a long duration to walk ups and downs at the remote areas of Everest. There are chances that you might even feel homesick. Duration can be a challenge if you haven’t build a strong mentality before going on the real trek.

The weather and temperature in the  Everest region are quite tricky! It usually fluctuates every hour. A fairly sunny and bright day can transform into a gloomy day in an instant. 

It is a strenuous trek and demands a certain level of physical fitness. So, prior trekking experience is a bonus for this trek.
