Tour Overview

Poon Hill Trek 2 days is a gem of Nepalese treks. Short, sweet, and full of magnificent views of snow-covered mountains and green landscapes, the trek charms its visitors with the beauty of Annapurna Region. And the heart-warming generosity of locals – Gurung and Magars – make the trek further memorable.

In your 2 days Poon Hill Trek with Nepal Hiking Adventure, you will traverse through one of the most beautiful sections of Annapurna Region. Although the trek seems a little hectic, the magnificence of Annapurna region, the breathtaking sunrise view from Poon Hill and the friendliness of locals are worth every step you take in your Poon Hill Trek 2 Days.

Early in the first day of your trek, you will drive to Sudame via Nayapul. The drive is about 3-4 hours. You will skip the walk on the off-road trail that other trekkers use as the first section of the trek and directly get off the jeep at Tikhedhungga.

From Tikhedhungga, you will begin your trek and ascend to Ghorepani. The trek takes about 6-7 hours. Spend overnight in the Ghorepani village and take a good rest to prepare yourself ready for tomorrow’s walk.

Early in the morning before sunrise, you will wake up and hike to Poon Hill within 2 days which takes about an hour or less. The majestic sunrise view of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, and other mountains is the highlight of this trek.

Spend your time witnessing the beauty of the Annapurna region and prepare to descend to Ghorepani. Pack your backpack and get ready to descend all the way down to Tikhedhunga. From Tikhedhunga, you will drive to Pokhara which usually takes about 4 hours. Later, you can have the Pokhara City Tour.

Detail Itinerary

Travel hours: 3 to 4 hours

Trek hours: 6 to 7

Altitude: 2,840m

We will start our travel early morning in Pokhara. Following our breakfast in the hotel in Pokhara, we will catch a jeep to Tikhedhunga, the starting point of our trek. It will take around 3-4 hours to reach our trek starting destination on Jeep. On the way to tikhedhunga, we will pass through Sudame and Hile.

Generally, Nayapul is the starting point for most of the trekkers to Poon Hill. Since we have fewer days to complete our trek, we will travel by Jeep to Ulleri. Though we will ride on Jeep to Ulleri, we will be able to enjoy picturesque settlements, and mountains like Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre, beautiful hillocks, and streams on the way.

As we drive by, we will escape steep slopes which are an obstacle for many trekkers. But we will not have enough time to interact with beautiful Sudamis (People residing in Sudame) and residents of Hile.

After our arrival at Ulleri, we will have our lunch and hike uphill to Ghorepani. Ghorepani is the destination of our Day 1 trek. It will take us around 6 to 7 hours from Ulleri. We have to ascend steep slopes on the way to Ghorepani. From Ulleri via meadows, rhododendron and oak forest, and pasture land we will hike towards Ghorepani. After hiking for nearly 2 hours, we will reach to Banthanti(2200m). Banthanti is a small settlement dominated by the Gurung community with a few restaurants and tea houses that provide accommodation.

From Banthanti we will head towards north to Nangthanti(2500m). After crossing several streams and small hills, we will get to Nangthanti. As we are hiking towards the north, the views of mountains get closer and more beautiful. From Nangthanti to Ghorepani, it is 2 hours of steep uphills climb.

When we get to Ghorepani, the striking views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre and more will amaze us. In Ghorepani, we will stay overnight in a well-maintained tea house.

Travel hours: 1 to 2 hours

Trek hours: 6 to 7 hours

Altitude:950m

This is the final day of our trekking. We will start our hiking early in the morning before dawn. Our aim is to reach the Poon Hill viewpoint that stands at 3,210m and enjoy the magnificent sunrise. So, we will hike up to Poon Hill which will take 45 minutes from our lodge. If we miss the sunrise, we will mess up all the fun, so we have to be quick.

After we get to the top, we will wait for the sun to rise. Slowly from behind the hills, the sun makes an appearance in the horizon. The sunrise view is majestic. The orangish sky and sun rays that strike on mountains result in a magnificent scene that will mesmerize you.

After spending nearly 45 minutes at the top, we will hike down to Ghorepani. We will have our breakfast and backtrack to Tikhedhunga(1,500m) which will take around 4-5 hours. The hike will also be a bit easier as we descend towards the south.

After hiking downhills for 2 hours we will reach Nangthanti. The views of Annapurna I from there is magnificent. From Nangthanti to Banthanti, it is 1 more hours of walk. After crossing several streamlets and beautiful cascades, we will get to Ulleri from Banthanti. Enjoying the picturesque settlements and majestic mountains from Ulleri we will hike downhill through the countryside and beautiful mustard field to Tikhedhunga, a small settlement area inhabited by Gurung community of Nepal.

We will have our lunch in Tikhedhunga and catch a Jeep for Pokhara. After riding on a Jeep for around 3 hours, we will get to Pokhara(950m) and our memorable 2 days trek comes to an end in Pokhara.

poonhill Trek 2 Days Best Time

The spring of March and April and the fall months of October and December is the ideal time to visit Poon Hill. These months will be dry and warm. Hiking during the monsoon season between May and September is a low season for the trek but it makes a different experience than other seasons. but at this season the road to hile is not so good due to off-road Driving at the monsoon.

The winter months of December, January, and February are the driest and the coldest months of the whole year. The elevation at the Poon Hill trek is not that high it’s unlikely that you’ll get a lot of snow even in wintertime.
