Manaslu Region

Manaslu Region is Nepal's untouched and newly renowned trekking region. It is located in central-western Nepal. Manaslu is a mountain name, which is the eight highest mountains in the world at an altitude of 8,156 m. In December 1998, the Government of Nepal was proclaimed Manaslu as a Manaslu Conservation Area to protect natural resources, cultural heritage, and wildlife, and to encourage eco-tourism to improve local people's livelihoods. The area under the conservation zone is 1,663 sq.km and is managed by Nepal's National Trust for Nature Conservation.

Manaslu region offers travelers an array of trekking options. Manaslu Trekking circuit, Manaslu Lower Eco Trek and Tsum Valley Trekking are some of this region's popular trekking routes. The popular 177 km long Manaslu trekking route skirts the Manaslu massif over the Annapurna pass. The Nepalese government only allowed this circuit to go trekking in 1991. The trekking trail follows an ancient salt trade route along the Gandaki River in Budhi. 10 peaks over 6,500 m, including a few over 7,000 meters, are visible on the route. The Larky La at an elevation of 5.235 m is the highest point achieved along the trekking route.
