The good trekking experience will also depends on the essentials that you carry for the trek. Carry too much equipment also becomes a huge burden and taking too few items which make your trip horrible and difficult. The right essentials for the particular trek are important in determining the success or failure of trek. Many of you spend longsome hours on deciding what you may or may not need for the trek. We will be discussing in detail what you need to carry and avoid when you are trekking in the hills of Nepal. In the below lines, we will be highlights the facts related to the importance of trekking gears and we will be listing the body wear, feet wear and others in the following line

Trekking Vs Hiking

We’ve seen many people as there is a confuse between Trekking and Hiking. Some pack trekking essentials which are  hiking and others carry hiking equipment in trekking time. Hiking is a one-day activity while trekking takes around three days. Trekking is longer in time, effort and duration thus requires much though-out packing.

 If you take hiking materials on a long trek, then you will be undersupplied and taking trekking materials for a hike, the equipment will not be used and heavy during your hike time. So make sure you do a lot of research on what you absolutely need to carry and things you can loosen up in your backpack.

Trekking is one of the well known outdoor actitivities that people does in their lifetime, In Nepal, there are  a lot of Himalayas and sky touching mountains. There are also many species of flora and fauna. In the trekking duration, an average trekkers could visit many monasteries and could dip into several holy lakes in the mountainious. Climate, season and weather

The conditions that you trekking in will influence your clothing choices too



climate which is greatly between the coast and the mountains. Focus on protecting yourself from the cold or heat, or from the rain or the sun.

Season: the climate will help you choose the best season for your trekking. Conditions can range widely within the same itinerary

Weather: check the forecast for the day of your trekking or for the period of your trek. You should take extra layers of clothing if there is the s chance of bad weather (a waterproof jacket or windbreaker, rain pants, a change of clothes is required).

Body Wear: Body Wear is one of the most essential things to be wearing while on a long trek. You need to carry essential and such bodily wear that you will be found easy to wear. Make sure you have an adequate body wear. Proper body wear is needed in order to make your trip more successful and memorable in the long run.

Body Wear

Cargo Pants: Cargo Pants are essential time for trekking purposes.  They are made of very quick dry material and the shot own lots of pockets .  The trousers should be quickly dried up. The lightweight is ideal for storing very light snacks and small items such as sanitizers, face and body cream, knife. The lightweight of pants makes it perfect lightweight clothing items to lessen your backpack weight.

#Windcheater and Waterproof Down Jacket

Trekking in broad daylight might not need down jacket in dry places such as  Langtang and Mustang, but the temperature in higher altitudes will drops significantly, so in the night your down jacket is essential to get that much needed warmth in your body. Windcheater is very important in the  treks. A higher elevation in Nepal is also cold and has speedy winds. A branded windcheater helps to counter the winds and keep you warm during your day treks times. Both down jacket and windcheater have very less weight and could be easily packed . These jackets can be folded to small balls like structure and takes less space in your backpack.

#Long Sleeve Trekking Shirts and Cotton Shirts:

When you are trekking in Nepal, make to take long sleeve shirts. In higher altitudes, long sleeves has also provide added protection from sunburn, sun allergies and rashes. Long sleeves can also protect your skin from humidity and keep you very  warm in the long run. Long sleeve cotton shirts can be used a base layer when in colder areas and also as a cloth to sleep during nights.

#Hats, Sunglasses and Sun Block Creams

The sun rises almost every day in Nepal. You will need a cotton hat, sunglass and sun block cream to prevent sun burn, face rashes and being dull and skin cracks that could be found in the cheeks. Hats provide you with shade to cover your face from intense sun rays which is also rises in high altitude treks; sunglass helps to protect your eye and sunblocks to take care of your skin from dangerous harmful UV rays.

#Winter Hats and Gloves:

While journey to the challegenes  make sure that you wear a thick wind proof hats and buy thick gloves. They are one of the essential part that makes a successful journey in the trekking.

Foot Wear: In a long trekking duration, a much needed thing is a proper foot shoes. Make sure you buy a high quality boot that will make your journey more convienent. Selection of a quality shoe is essential to make a journey memorable.

#Trekking Boots

Prefer carrying boots instead of light shoes while trekking in the nation of Nepal. The terrain is uneven with lots of bumps and rocks. There is a  quality trekking boot can prevent your ankles from rolling during treks

.A good pair of trekking boots is suitable for traveling in any part of Nepal without worrying about compatibility of shoes which matches the  terrain. They can be used in high altitude treks and low altitude jungle treks. Boots with ankle protectors is useful to avoid any sort of  mishaps in a stony trek route such as Annapurna Base Camp and Everest Base Camp.

#Creams and foot massagers:

While you are on the long treks on the Himalayas, make sure you takes extra care of her feet. Due to long walks, your feet hurt and cracks could form in the sole of your foots. To avoid swollen or cracks in the feet, make sure to take an antiseptic creams or pain reliever spray.

#Other Equipment:

There are also other equipments that you should taking along to make your journey more comfortable. Here are some tools and equipments that one should take while taking a 3 to 5 trek in the mountain and Himalayas region. 


GPS is also nice, but a map and compass are better – their batteries will not run out. It is important that you always carry a detailed map of the area you will be visiting and know how to use a compass for the much needed navigation.

#Duffen Bag and Backpack

Duffel bags are large bags that will  hold all your belongings like clothes, food materials, spare shoes, and other many other materials. Hire a porter to carry your Duffel bags, make sure they are stong and waterproof.

 In the Himalayas, Duffel bags are often carried through a donkey’s back . Thus, your Duffel bag needs to be of quality materials substance and able to withstood harsh weather conditions. Backpacks are the bags you should be carrying on your back. Prefer a waterproof backpack with a capacity of around 30 liters to hold frequently needed items like cameras, water bottles, a waterproof jacket and some edibles you need on a day’s trek.

#Make a Sturdy Tent(For Camping trek)

 Tent is also important in any trek or journey that is undertaken. Buy a strong and reliable tent that will last for several years. Tents should be such that it will not fall off when strong winds are blowing. Tent should protect you from mosquitoes and other insect. It should be spacious too. 


Carry a headlamp and extra batteries. Flashlights are important even on day trips. You never know when you might need to spend the night or make that last mile or after sunset. during the trek, we have a sunrise view point. to see the sunrise view we need to wake up early morning to catch up on the sunrise. at that time we need headlights or lighting equipment. it makes it easier for you. we highly suggest for Headlights. some people use their mobile phones as well but sometime in the mountain, there is harder to find charging places. 

#Extra Food

Whenever you go out, even for a day trip, bring some more food in case you are delayed by emergencies, bad weather, or just get lost. The mountaineers have also suggested a one-day supply. so its better to carry some dry fruits or chocolate candies for quick energy. 

#Supply of First Aid Materials:

What you actually carry depends on where you’re going and what you’re comfortable using with. Carry first-aid supplies is needed for minor  as well as some injuries. In particular, carry plenty of adhesive band-aids and sterilized bandages so that you will be well prepared for the journey.

#Sleeping Bags

Sleeping bags are needed  for long duration treks in Nepal. Not all trekking destinations consist of well-infrastructure places. If you trek on some popular trekking routes like the Annapurna and Everest route, several tea houses will be provide well-furnished rooms to stay, hot showers, warm and tasty food. However, secluded locations like Thorong La, Thorong La, Rara, Shey Phoksundo will be based on camping treks where sleeping bag is a choice when you have to spend nights at a  tent. Buying a strong sleeping bags.


Firestarter is also useful for starting a small lit fire, most possibly emergency situations. This device is also for igniting small woods.


In case of emergencies, when you are lost or tired and confusion, your in pain and hurt and needed help. Hence, metal whistles could be a problem in the mountains. So a better choice will be plastic whistle.


Locks is very important to protect your belongings from being misplaced, stolen and lost.

Extra Things to Take


Extras Duct tape could be taken on

To avoid carrying an entire roll wrap the desired amount around a pencil

 First aid kit (for  moleskin for blisters)

Extra passport photos and photocopies of your much-needed passport.
