Overview
One of the adventurous treks into a rarely visited wilderness area of eastern Nepal! Trekking to the base camp of Mt Makalu, the world’s fifth highest mountain; will be a trip to remember for every adventure enthusiast. At the beginning of Makalu Base Camp trek, you will walk through rice terraces, green forest; and gently ascend up to higher elevation into the most remote and unfrequented areas of Nepal. At the higher altitude, you will find yourself encircled by huge moraines, glaciers and impressive 7000 and 8000m peaks.
Here, you will hardly find any human settlements except summer huts of the Shepherds. While trekking, you will enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Chamlang (7,319m), Mt. Baruntse (7,129m) Mera Peak (6,654m) and many other snow-clad peaks. The area enriched with 28 species of rhododendron, 52 types of orchids, and 59 rare plants. Wild Yak, Himalayan Thar, Red Panda, Snow leopard, Musk deer can be seen in the Makalu Barun National park. Along the route, you will meet diverse groups of people such as Rai, Tamang, Sherpa, Newari, etc.
Makalu Base Camp trekking categorized as extreme trekking, which includes rock and snow climbing. At all high passes you need to fix ropes to climb up and down. This trek is really difficult as you have to cross high mountain passes; however, it is one of the best treks in Nepal.
For a truly challenging alternative, it is possible to cross three high passes; and return via the Everest region instead of ending the trek at Tumlingtar.
The Makalu Base Camp is a full board camping trek; and there will be porters to carry supplies, a dining and sleeping tent and other necessary camping gear. Please contact us for brief details.
