Upper Mustang Trekking

Upper Mustang Trekking

Upper Mustang, also known as' Lost Kingdom', is a beautiful land of high-desert, unique scenery surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Its extraordinary culture and natural beauty is incomparable to any parts of Nepal. The Tibetan frontier lies at the northern border of Upper Mustang having strong Tibetan ties and influences. It was opened to visitors in the year 1992 and till now very few tourists have reached Upper Mustang. The land still retains much of its mysticism and offers full of adventure.

Upper Mustang Trek takes you into an arid region beyond the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan mountain range. You will walk through desert like landscape, barren ridges, deep canyons, eroded cliffs and moraine valley. On the way you will come across land of barley field and pasture where sheep are seen grazing and ponies are carrying loads. The views of windswept Kali Gandaki Valley, vast spaces around Kagbeni, sprawling ridges and high mountains provide you a mind blowing thrill and excitement. Trekking in Mustang is truly one of the most rewarding experiences in Nepal. Trekkers will have a close up view of the primitive society that has remained unaffected by modernization for centuries. The king still exists and grants audience to the visitors in his palace located within the walled city of Lo Manthang. The Tibetan traditions are strong here .The former royal king of Mustang is still considered as king at local level and treated with great honour. The entire area of Upper Mustang is pre-dominated by Buddhism. Monuments and shrines are found throughout the terrain which includes prayer wall, monasteries, Mustang-style chorten and colorful prayer flags.

You begin your journey with a scenic mountain flight to Jomsom, the administrative headquarters of the Mustang District. Upon arrival at Jomsom you will make your way to Kagbeni, the gateway to the Upper Mustang.
