Jomsom Trekking

Jomsom Trekking

Trekking to Jomsom along the Kali Gandaki river valley up to Muktinath is one of the popular treks in the Annapurna region. There are three ways to reach Jomsom from Pokhara either by walking all through culturally rich various old settlements like Ghandruk, Ghorepani, Poonhill, Tatopani, Ghasa and Kande or by road. Due to construction of road Jomsom is well connected to and from Pokhara. In monsoon the road gets slippery, muddy and landslides might occur, so we don't suggest road journey during the monsoon. The last option is by flight. From Pokhara there are daily flights available to Jomsom but sometimes particularly in the late spring and early monsoon cloud over at Pokhara and Jomsom and blowing of heavy winds at Jomsom causes delays or cancellations of flights. In order to avoid bad weather situation and heavy winds all the flights to and from Jomsom operate only in the morning.

Jomsom is the gateway for trekking to Muktinath and Lo-Manthang. It is also considered an ending point for treks from Manang. Jomsomused to be the half way point of the Round Annapurna trekking but after the road is constructed it has now become a terminal point.

On Jomsom trekking you will enjoy a wide array of landscapes from sub-tropical rhododendron and oak forests to high, dry landscape similar to Tibetan Plateau. You will walk through the Kali Gandaki valley, the deepest gorge in the world, Kagbeni, a Tibetan influenced village dotted with prayer wheels or a Buddhist monastery and chortens. While trekking, you will also enjoy the great views of Annapurna mountain range and Dhaulagiri.

Approximately 30,000 trekkers visit every year to Jomsom and its surrounding places like Kagbeni, Muktinath and those who make Annapurana Circuit ends their trip at Jomsom and take flight or jeep drive to Pokhara. There are many hotels/lodges with restaurants available at Jomsom.
