Jiri- Everest Base Camp Trekking

Jiri- Everest Base Camp Trekking

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trekking is a highly praised trekking route to the Everest region in Nepal. It was in 1953 when two renowned figures- Sir Edmund Hillary and Mr. Tenzing Norgey Sherpa had taken the same route for their Mt. Everest expedition in 1953. After an eight hour scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jiri, our trek starts next day morning, passing through the lower parts of Everest region which is relatively undeveloped as compared to the north part of the region around Namche Bazaar. While trekking through Jiri, you will experience many traditional aspects of culture and traditional lifestyle of different ethnic groups including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, and Chettri and of course the Sherpa. Walking through many ethnic villages, this trek involves up and downhill walks along the trail being well facilitated with tea houses and good campsites in most of the villages. This trek has the advantage of helping trekkers to acclimatise en route, a number of stunning attractions such as walk through lovely forests, visit several Buddhist Monasteries, enjoy great Sherpa hospitality and enjoy the spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam and many others. The trail from Jiri to Everest Base Camp is about 190km/120miles long and the total altitude gained on the innumerable uphill is 9000m – much higher even than Mt. Everest. After Namche Bazaar we follow the main trail to base camp with all its attractions. Each year around 1000 trekkers choose Jiri to Everest Base Camp route.

While staying at Namche Bazaar you will make day excursion to Thame village and return to Namche Bazaar for overnight stay. Next day morning you leave for Tengboche (3867m) and visit Tengboche monastery which is one of the most beautiful monasteries in Upper Khumbu area and the religious center of the whole ‘Sherpa land‘. From Tengboche you can also enjoy the mesmerizing view of Mt. Ama dablam at the background. At Dingboche nestled in the sunny valley facing the most beautiful Amadablam peak is a great place to spend two nights to adjust the thinner oxygen level before you climb up above 5000 meter. The alpine sceneries become more rugged as you trek above the tree line on the Khumbu glacier to Lobuche and then Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Everest Base Camp. Climbing to the landmark Destinations of the Everest base camp over the boulder-strewn moraines can be challenging but very rewarding once you reach there. We climb up the Kalapathar peak at the height of 5545 meters, the highest elevation on our entire Everest base camp trek, and it will be a great experience you will ever cherish in your life. If you desire to set eyes on the highest himalayan peaks and rugged pristine glaciers around you, the view from Kalapathar will be fantastic.
