Gosainkund Lake Trekking

Gosainkund Lake Trekking

Gosainkund Lake trekking is a very popular trek which leads you to the sacred lakes of Gosainkunda at the elevation of 4380m. Gosainkunda (known as frozen holy Shiva Lake) is surrounded by towering snowy mountains and enriched with pristine beauty, grassy meadows strewn with wild flowers. There are 108 lakes small to medium in size scattered around Gosainkund Lake. The water sips down out of these lakes to form the Trishuli River and in winter all these lakes remain frozen for six months and melts only in the spring and summer. The challenging Lauribina La pass (4,610 m) is located nearby Gosainkund Lake.

Our journey begins to Sundarijal north east of Kathmandu, the starting point of the Gosainkunda trekking. You will begin a gentle uphill climb, passing through Chisopani village inhabited by the Tamang and Tibetan people, into lush forests of Rhododendron, conifers and oak along the route. Along the trail you will see the beautiful snow-clad mountain range, cattle (Yak, Sheep) grazing on rich alpine pastures under the watchful eyes of their herders. Breathtaking Mountains come into view as you ascend higher and higher in altitude and the vegetation becomes sparser and the trails become more challenging. When you will reach Gosainkunda (known as frozen holy Shiva Lake) your dream come true. In the Gosainkund Lake thousands of Hindu, Buddhist pilgrims visit every year in the full moon of August to bathe in its pure waters to cleanse the sins. Shamans also pay a visit to Lake Gosainkund beating the drums and chanting the Mantras accompanied by his followers. Here, the landscape is enriched with pristine beauty, grassy meadows strewn with wild flowers and the region is surrounded by towering snowy mountains. Along the trail you will get tea house accommodation with basic to variety of food options depending on place to place.
