Dhampus Sarangkot Hike Trekking

Dhampus Sarangkot Hike Trekking

Dhampus Circuit trekking is one of the popular short and easy treks in the Annapurna region. It is a perfect trek for those who do not have enough time and who are not experienced at all with trekking in Nepal. Dhampus and Sarangkot trekking can be made to experience local culture, heritage and enjoy Himalayan Mountain view. In fact, Dhampus, situated at an altitude of 1750m above sea level, is the name of a culturally rich village mainly inhabited by Gurung ethnic group of people who are known by 'Gurkhas'. Gurungs have made glorious history during the Second World War and most of the Gurung youths are still serving in the British Army. Gurungs speak their own language, wear their traditional costume and follow their own culture. The main source of income of the local people is from tourism-related activities involving horticulture, organic farming, wood selling for fuel, alcohol brewing, livestock and poultry.

For many years Dhampus village has become a center of attraction among the foreign tourists from different parts of the world. Twenty five percent of the tourists, who visit Nepal, make a short trek to Dhampus village and spend a couple of nights at lodges and taste the locally made food. Dhampus is also a gateway to Annapurna Conservation Area as well as it is one of the the main entry points to the Annapurna Base Camp and other trekking trails in the Annapurna Region. From the village any visitor can enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt Annapurna, Mt Machhapuchhare (Fishtail), Mt Himchuli, Lamjung Himal and many other peaks.

It is just a 45 minute drive from Pokhara to Phedi (45 min) & begins the trek to Dhampus (2 hrs) through rhododendron forest and rice terraced fields. Sarangkot is another beautiful village located on a mountainside ridge at an altitude of 1600m. From Sarangkot on the northern direction one can view Mt Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Mountain range in the far west. On the southern direction of Sarangkot one can see the Pokhara valley and Phewa Lake on the north-western outskirts of Pokhara city.

Splendid view of Annapurna range, sunrise and sunset views from Dhampus and Sarangkot can't be missed.
